This year the whole school will be taking part in the St Vincent’s Potato Challenge.
Each class will be provided with the tools they need to grow their own crop potatoes, a timetable and instructions for the children (and staff) to follow.
There are prizes for the biggest single potato and the class with the greatest yield of potatoes. Every class will of course have their own crop of home grown potatoes to share.
The Eco Team will be keeping a record of how the growing is going. They'll also be on hand if advice is needed - they are quite experienced at growing potatoes now!
Good luck everyone!!

I am concerned that some children are being dropped off in the playground very early in the morning. My concern is that these children are unsupervised and therefore, their welfare and safety is being put at risk. I would be grateful if parents of children from Years 2 to 6 did not leave their children unsupervised in the playground before 8.20 a.m.
Thank you. Mr. Callaghan (Head Teacher)
The children have been given an individual login and password to access Purple Mash from home. This password can be found in their reading records. IMPORTANT - Reminder Safety Notice
Could parents refrain from driving into the staff car park located between Caldershaw and St. Vincent's when dropping off or picking up children. The sign on the left has been located at the entrance to the staff car park outside St. Vincent's and Caldershaw School, please take note of the information for the safety of our children.
Please can we remind all parents that there are double yellow lines on the 'horse shoe' located between the schools and that parking on double yellow lines may lead to parking tickets being issued.
It has been brought to my attention that parents are parking on the pavements very close to the school gates, and surrounding residential roads causing problems for local residents. This is becoming a major safety concern for our children. Please respect the parking restrictions and consider the safety of our children when you are picking up and dropping off.
Thank you. Mr. Callaghan (Head Teacher)

Outstanding - Religious Education Inspection
On Tuesday 8th April St. Vincent's underwent a Section 48 inspection of Religious Education by the Diocese of Salford. The inspection focused on the 5Ws - Welcome, Word, Welfare, Witness and Worship. I am delighted to inform you that the school was judged Outstanding in all areas and Outstanding overall. The inspectors were extremely impressed by all the children and the standard of Religious Education offered at St. Vincent's.
Click here for a summary of the report - it is a wonderful read!

As you are probably aware St. Vincent’s School was subject to an Ofsted inspection on the 4th and 5th July. This was not unexpected since our last Ofsted inspection took place in December 2007. The recent inspection was the school’s first under the new revised Ofsted framework (July 2013).
I was very pleased that school was graded as ‘Good’ with a number of ‘Outstanding’ features. Everyone in school is proud and delighted that Ofsted highlighted the behaviour and attitude of the pupils and their safety as outstanding, along with the outstanding contribution to the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Ofsted have also highlighted areas in which school can further improve and work in these areas has already commenced.
I would like to thank all those parents who took the time to complete the online parent view questionnaire. The inspectors were very impressed with the response and positive support for the school. Thank you for your continued support.
The full report has now been published by Ofsted - please click on link here to view.
St Vincent’s has taken delivery of the latest ‘defibrillator’ and is a registered defibrillator site. All members of staff and First Aiders have been trained in the use of this vital life saving equipment by the NW Ambulance Service.
There is a new resource for parents and carers about internet safety. "Video guides for the free ISP parental controls". These guidelines have been produced by Safer internet who have been working with BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin Media, who have each made short video clips outlining where you can find their free parental controls, what they do and how you set them up.
These films are available on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and you can embed the films if you want to use them or download them. See http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/parents-and-carers/parental-controls . Do please make use of them and let people know about them. The ISPs have committed to keeping these films updated, and if you embed the films on your site, we are able to update them for you if they change. (8.2.13)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank and praise the PTA for their hard work so far this year. The PTA is made up of a small number of committed volunteers, who work hard to raise invaluable funds for school. Each year about £5,000 is raised and spent on projects that benefit school and the children. The PTA has funded the mosaic that flows along the corridor called ‘the procession’, 2 lighting rigs that are used to enhance the atmosphere at concerts, picnic benches for the playground, items for the prayer gardens, interactive displays for the rec / Y1 playground and more recently, the improved lighting to the playground and Church car park. The PTA would like me to explain that attendance at meetings is not a requirement, but if any parents could help at events, it would be much appreciated. Please contact the school office if you are able to offer your services.
For the safety of our children at St. Vincent's the gate from the Church Car Park to the school playground will be closed from 9.10 a.m. until 3.05 p.m. each day. Parents & Visitors to the school outside of these times must report via the Main School Entrance situated off Edenfield Road. Parking is available on the 'horseshoe' - please avoid parking in the staff car park between St. Vincent's and Caldershaw School. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the safety and well-being of your children is paramount. Click here to view map entrance.
'The Wednesday Word’
The ‘The Wednesday Word’ is an exciting and colourful weekly leaflet aimed at carrying the message of the Sunday Gospel from school to home and on to Church.
Each week the children in KS2 will be given a copy of ‘The Wednesday Word’ for them to take home and read with the rest of the family.
The Gospel message of each ‘Wednesday Word’ will be introduced to all the children during the KS1 and KS2 assemblies and in class.
Please support your child in this new and exciting initiative by reading and sharing the message of the Sunday Gospel with them each week and by attending Mass at the weekend.
