Welcome to our Year 1 Classes

The teachers in Year 1 are Mrs. Coluccio, Mrs Duszczyk, Mrs. Golding and Mrs. Skinner.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs. Brook, Ms Nagorska, Mrs. McTear and Ms Brayshaw.

The teachers are looking forward to an exciting year with our new classes. We hope to teach you lots of new skills and have lots of fun as we progress through the year together.

Gruffalo Day

Thursday 6th February

On Friday 20th March, Year 1 will be having a ‘Gruffalo Day’. We will start reading the book after the half term and will finish the unit of work with a ‘Gruffalo Day’. On this day, the children will be provided with lots of fun educational activities relating to the book.

As part of this day, we think it would be great if your child could come to school dressed as one of the characters from the book. Children can choose from a fox, an owl, a snake, a mouse and of course the Gruffalo.

Thank you for your continued support. We will look forward to seeing your child in their outfit. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask the class teacher.

Education City Update

We would like to inform you that the homework section of Education City had been updated to review the maths and phonics your child completed in Autumn. This is not compulsory homework just an option for you and your child to revisit their learning in a fun way.

If you cannot access Education City please  speak to the class teacher.  Many thanks.

Year 1 Teachers

Please note the format for spellings has changed this term. The children are now required to read the top half of the sheet and write sentences using the words in the bottom half of the sheet. The spelling test will focus on the words on the bottom half of the sheet only. We will also be checking that children can read the words in the top half. Further details can be found in your child’s spelling book.

Thank you for your continued support.

On Line System Trial

Dear Parents

Thank you to everyone who participated in our online Sims (Edulink) trial. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of the system and the low uptake, we have decided not to purchase this system and you will no longer be able to access it. We do appreciate the fact that some parents took time out to use the system, which has helped us make our decision.

Year 1 NumBots

Last week KS1 launched the use of ‘NumBots’; a mathematical software program linked to TT Rockstars which KS2 currently use. The program can be downloaded as an app or used on the internet and it is compatible with both PCs and Tablets. The program can be accessed from home using the log in details which your child has received. NumBots has already been introduced to the pupils and they will have regular access in school, however it maybe nice for families to spend some time together understand how the story of the game progresses and the mathematical challenges involved.

Thank you for your continued support.
