Free Power Maths

28th April

To support the year 3 children with their maths work, Power Maths have provided a booklet online for the children to follow. This follows the same format of the lessons that the children are used to in school. By following the link, you should see a folder named ‘Power Maths Year 3’. In this folder, there is a practice book and then 2 textbooks to support the children’s learning.

Link to Year 3 Resources

To access the website, you may need to agree and accept terms and conditions.

In the practice book, there are 10 weeks’ worth of activities, so please do not rush to do more than recommended. Each lesson starts with a ‘discover’ which is a problem solving activity based on that lesson. Encourage the children to do this alone before discussing it with them through the ‘share’ – this talks the children through the problem, explaining a good way to complete it. The discover and share can also be found in the textbook on the appropriate pages (highlighted at the bottom of this message up to May half term).

Following the discover and share, use the textbook to ‘Think together’ with your children, discussing further problems and possible ways to complete them. There are usually 3 – 4 questions in this section. Following this, independently ask your child to complete the practice questions in the practice booklet. This is the following 2 pages after the discover and share.

There are some lessons in this booklet that your children will have already completed in school, or at home with you in the booklet they brought home, however I would encourage you to do them again for extra practice. If your child struggles with a particular lesson, try to spend an extra day or two on it, do not feel that you need to rush through.

Your children should be familiar with this format as it is very similar to how lessons run in school, but please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any problems.

Thank you

Miss McGuinness & Mrs Levy

Pray for the World with Pope Francis

The month, in his monthly video, the Holy Father calls for us to pray for the world in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Let us all pray together for the sick, for the people who are suffering. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas — we who are put to the test — and deliver us from every danger. O glorious and blessed Virgin. I thank all Christians, all the men and women of good will who pray at this moment, in unison, whichever religious tradition they belong to.”

On Friday 27 March at 5pm UK time (6pm Rome), the Pope will pray on the steps of St Peter’s basilica. Although the square will be empty, there will be a period of Adoration and readings from Scripture. At the end of the service, the Holy Father will impart his Urbi et Orbi blessing and will offer a Plenary indulgence for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Class 3S

27th March

I hope your first week at home has gone well. I hope you have managed to spend some quality time with your families, doing creative and fun things, whilst keeping safe. I know I have seen a few of you this week but I wanted to check that the rest of you are all doing well too because I’m missing you all.

I’m sure you have seen that lots of children and families have been creating ‘Rainbows of Hope’ and putting them in their front windows to cheer people up. I’m sure some of you are already involved in this project to help keep your neighbourhoods happy. If you have already done a picture, can you send me a photo in so that I can print it off and put it on our windows and in our area to keep us happy too. If you haven’t done one yet, why don’t you make it your little task this weekend and send me a picture when you can? Try to make them as creative as you can.

Keep smiling and I will hopefully see you all very soon! Remember to spend this time with your families and try to make happy memories and don’t work too hard!

Stay safe!

Miss McGuinness

In Year 3 your child will need to bring their reading book bag every day. They will be able to change their books on Monday and Thursday, providing their homework diary has been signed – just a signature will suffice. Please ensure they only bring their reading book, homework diary and relevant homework in their book bags. Please ensure there are no key rings, tags, pencil cases or extras, as they have to fit into a small tray alongside their indoor PE kit. Indoor PE is every Tuesday and will only be sent home before each holiday for a wash.

Please make sure both kits are fully labelled with your child’s name.  Your child’s Outdoor PE kit will be taken home every Friday afternoon, please ensure it is returned for the next week.

We would like to thank you in advance for supporting your children with their homework, reading, spellings and multiplication tables.
